FAO Maosen Wang ID number: 10620402 Programme: MSc in Biotechnology and Enterprise Dear Maosen We are writing to update you on English language arrangements for Chinese offer holders/applicants for the 2020 academic year. As you are probably aware, either from our correspondence or from notices on our website,the University’s 6 week and 10 week pre-sessional English courses will be delivered online in summer 2020. The dates and fees for the courses will remain the same, and the application deadlines have been extended by one week. Please see further details at University Language Centre website. This year’s online pre-sessional format has been tailored as a solution to the unprecedented disruption of the COVID situation, to prepare students for 2020 admission. Please be assured that any student who pass this year’s online pre-sessional course, but subsequently find themselves unable to start their main course of study until 2021, will be given additional support and guidance to satisfactorily sustain their English language preparation for UoM admission. Please let us know if you have any other queries about our pre-sessional courses. If you intend to apply for one of these, please do contact us so that we can advise you further. Given the ongoing closure of SELT testing centres (IELTS, PTE, TOEFL) due to disruption associated with COVID 19, and the unavailability of the TOEFL IBT Special Home Edition within China, the University has given careful consideration to alternative arrangements for Chinese offer holders/applicants to satisfy our English language conditions for their main course of study in 2020. The University has taken the decision to accept the LanguageCert International ESOL test at B2 Communicator level or above (C1 Expert / C2 Mastery) for entry to main courses and is also accepted for entry on to Pre-sessional for applicants who have a lower certificate score than required. The test is taken online with live invigilation and is available to be taken globally, including in China. (Please note: LanguageCert International ESOL at A1, A2, or B1 cannot be accepted). Other tests are also currently being evaluated.We will provide further guidance on these as soon as possible.
