On 8 March, we celebrated a landmark moment in the shared histories of the University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide. The new Adelaide University was established under the Adelaide University Act 2023.

Our next chapter is a significant one, but there are still many steps ahead until we open our doors to the new university in January 2026, including necessary regulatory approvals.

The University of South Australia and the University of Adelaide will continue to operate as they currently do and we will keep you informed as we move through the transition horizon to create a new contemporary and for-purpose university for the future.

Your questions answered

We welcome your questions about the new Adelaide University. While we may not have all the details right now, we will share information where we can through this regular email.

Applications for Adelaide University
We confirm that Adelaide University has applied for (but does not yet have) TEQSA and CRICOS registrations. Subject to regulatory approvals, including CRICOS registration, we anticipate that international students will be able to apply to Adelaide University for programs starting in 2026 and beyond from the second half of 2024.

There are no changes to the University of South Australia application process for 2024 and 2025, and we continue to welcome applications from your students.

Transition of students
It is proposed that all current University of South Australia students, including students who commence their studies in 2024 and 2025 and who have not completed their studies by January 2026, will (subject to necessary regulatory approvals) transition to Adelaide University in 2026 in either their existing or an equivalent program. More details about the program suite will be available in the coming months.

Furthermore, the following principles are proposed for students transitioning from the University of South Australia to Adelaide University, but are subject to necessary regulatory approvals being obtained and Adelaide University commencing operations from 1 January 2026:

• Commencing students enrolling in 2025 (and who transfer from the University of Adelaide or the University of South Australia to the new university) will receive their award from Adelaide University.

• Commencing and continuing students enrolled in or before 2024 (and who transfer from the University of Adelaide or the University of South Australia to the new university) will take their award from Adelaide University but, subject to regulatory approval, may be able to elect to have the name and logo of the the University of South Australia or the University of Adelaide displayed on their award.

Scholarships
Information about Adelaide University scholarships, including arrangements for transition of existing University of South Australia scholarship recipients (following regulatory approval and where applicable), will be available later this year.
