Thank you for your valued support of Melbourne Business School (MBS). With reference to the correspondence sent to you in May this year, I am now providing you with a further updat on the minimum requirements for MBS programs for 2017 entry.

At MBS strong student performance equals a great student experience

Melbourne Business School is a leader in business education, creating a high achieving cohort to rival the best business schools in the world. To attract the best and brightest however, we must maintain our commitment to a world‐class experience with a diverse classroom of highly engaged students who are active within the MBS community.

To achieve this, MBS will now position itself as a selecive school. For 2017, the following minimums will apply:

Applicants from a C9 University with an average weighted mark of 80%*

Applicants from a 211 and 985 University with an average weighted mark of 85%*

Applicants from a Non‐211 University with an average weighted mark of 90%* Applicants below this cut‐off will be unsuccessful unless there is a very strong case to be made by

the applicant such as significant improvements in the last 2 years of studies relative to the first two years, outstanding performance in relevant subjects, etc. As is the case now, the personal statement and the GMAT/GRE (when required) will factor in acceptance decisions even in cases wher applicants meet the minimum entry requirements.

The preferred applicant assessment process will still apply and I have included this on the following pages for your reference.

important points to counsel applications for 2017 intakes:

Applicants who have a weighted average mark of at least 80% from C9 or 85% from 985/211 universities will receive outcomes on a rolling basis starting from the end of the previous intake.

To help streamline this process, Overseas Representatives are asked to flag high performing applicants via the e‐application registration process. This can be done by including the applicant’s current average in the “Name of Qualification” field in “Previous Study Details” section.

Minimum entry requirements and selecion:

Due to the intense competition for places, meeting or exceeding the minimum academic entry requirements does not guarantee an offer.

To be considered for a conditional offer, the applicant must have completed at least 6 semesters of study at the time of application with the required minimum average.

One deferral per applicant will be permitted for a maximum of one semester (two semesters for programs with one intake per year).

Application fee waivers will only be offered by MBS or University of Melbourne staff to applicants from C9 universities with an average of 80% and above or 985/211 universities with an average of 85% and above.
