Visa processing delays – deferring studies

We understand these past weeks have been stressful for students awaiting confirmation of their visa to arrive for Semester 1 commencement. Unfortunately, the deadline for students to obtain a student visa and arrive on campus for this semester has now passed. Students who did not obtain a valid visa by 8 March will now need to defer their studies to a future semester. It is important that students take appropriate action before 31 March 2024 to avoid financial liability.

We acknowledge that students in this situation will be disappointed. We greatly appreciate your role in supporting them through this time and want to reiterate that UQ is also here to assist and ensure they are ready for the next opportunity to study with us. 

If students are not enrolled in courses
 

Students will need to submit a request to defer their studies to a future semester by sending an email to International Admissions at iasdeferral@uq.edu.au by no later than 31 March 2024, with information including:

If the student has been granted a place in a quota program, please note there is no guarantee that the student will be able to defer to the next available intake.

International Admissions will work with each student on a case-by-case basis to discuss their options for deferral based on their program.

If a student has already submitted a request to defer or withdraw prior to this email notification, there is no need to resend. If they haven’t heard from us, we will respond to them shortly.
