We appreciate the time and effort you have made in preparing your application. Your application has been given careful consideration and on this occasion we are unable to offer you a place on the MSc Mathematical Finance programme. When assessing an application we look for excellent academic performance at undergraduate level. We consider indicators such as previous grades, a candidate's relative position within their class and the institution the candidate has studied at previously. For some of our courses, the undergraduate degree content must be highly related to the subject that you have applied for and you must demonstrate consistently high standards throughout your studies. We take into account the written application and personal statement; English language skills; and the motivation, maturity, personal skills and attributes that may contribute to the classroom experience. The most common reason we are unable to make an offer is that the degree does not contain enough relevant study or the marks in the key modules we require are not strong enough when compared to the other applications we have received. We have received an extraordinarily large volume of applications this cycle and the application pool is extremely competitive for places on all of the Masters courses at the Department of Mathematics. Inevitably, we are unable to offer places to many well-qualified applicants. I hope this information helps you understand the application decision.
