| | Dear Valued Partner,
It’s hard to believe we are already in 2026! We closed 2025 on a high note with the December Agent Familiarisation Week, and we were delighted to welcome many of our valued counsellors to Melbourne and Geelong. Thank you to those who took the time to experience our campuses first-hand, and of course, Melbourne’s famously variable weather! There was more reason to celebrate with Deakin receiving the highest number of nominations at the 2025 Victorian International Education Awards. We were thrilled to see Vish Goswami named International Student of the Year – Regional, Dr Ruwini Cooray recognised as International Student – Graduate Entrepreneur of the Year, and Emily Chin awarded Emerging Leader – International Alumni. Congratulations to all nominees and winners.
Looking ahead, 2026 will bring some important changes following updates to the Education Services for Overseas Students Act 2000, particularly in relation to education agents and commission arrangements.
We look forward to working closely with you throughout 2026 and sharing another successful year of supporting students to find the right Deakin course to achieve their study and career goals.

| Ban on the payment of agent commissions for onshore transfers
We are sure that you are all across the latest change to the ESOS Act that prohibits education providers from paying or giving an education agent a commission (monetary or non-monetary) for the recruitment of an overseas student who is transferring from another provider from 1 April 2026.
Students can still seek the support of agents to transfer to another institution not listed on their COE, however, if they seek the help of an agent to transfer, that agent will not be able to receive any commission from the receiving provider for doing so.

We were delighted to host 35 agent counsellors from 20 countries at Deakin for a fun and engaging Deakin Agents Fam Week in December last year.
Throughout the week, participants connected with Deakin staff and students, deepened their understanding of Deakin through interactive sessions, and explored our campuses and facilities in Melbourne and Geelong. Along the way, they also experienced the best of both cities, including a fun introduction to Melbourne’s famously unpredictable weather, which kept things interesting! □□️□️□
