Dear Families, Friends and Partners
Greetings from the International College of Middleton Grange School
A lot has been happening at school recently, and it’s timely to provide you with an update.
Staffing Updates
At the end of Term 1, our Assistant Director, Mr David Farmer, retired from his position. Mr Farmer has made a profound impact on the lives of many students during his time at the school. He leaves a legacy that will be fondly remembered, and we wish him all the very best for the future.
We were fortunate to appoint Miss Abigail Uttley to this role at the beginning of Term 2. Miss Uttley comes from a teaching background and, most recently, worked for a leadership development company delivering training across various professional sectors, including education. We are delighted to have Miss Uttley join our team.
At the end of Term 2, our Principal, Mr Mike Vannoort, also retired to focus on ongoing health concerns. He has undergone numerous surgeries to treat a long-standing ankle injury sustained through sport, but sadly these have not brought relief, and he continues to live in considerable pain. It is now time for him to prioritise his health and recovery. We thank Mr Vannoort for his dedicated service and wish him well.
Looking ahead, we are excited to welcome Mr Greg Le Roux as our new Principal starting in Term 4. An introduction from Mr Le Roux will be sent out later in the year.
Finally, Mrs Yolandy Stander, Administration Manager of the International College, has decided to move on to pursue other opportunities. We thank her for her contributions and wish her every success in the future. A replacement for this role has not yet been appointed.
Other Updates
We are proud to announce that one of our Japanese students, Haruto Fujikawa, has been selected for the Cultural Ambassador Award 2025, a regional award recognising an international student who promotes cultural exchange and understanding in Ōtautahi Christchurch. This award celebrates efforts to foster intercultural dialogue, honour cultural heritage, and build bridges across communities. Haruto leads our International Leadership Team and is a very deserving recipient.
Student Achievement – 2024
We are thrilled to report that all of our Year 13 students in 2024 achieved NCEA Level 3 and University Entrance. These exceptional young people have gone on to study at universities around the world. They have set a high standard for our current Year 13 students, and we’re confident they’ll rise to the challenge.
Our school continues to strive for excellence—not only academically, but in all aspects of our students’ development. We look forward to continuing to work alongside you and thank you for your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
Director International College
