eVisas: Switching to digital immigration permissions

The Home Office is changing the way in which individuals will be able to view evidence of their UK immigration permission. This will affect how students will check their own permission and also how they will prove what permission they have to other organisations.

Specifically, physical documents such as BRPs, and vignettes placed in students' passport are eventually going to be replaced by a digital immigration permission known as an ‘eVisa’.

The initial focus is on holders of existing permissions, who are being invited to create a digital account. Eventually, all holders of immigration permission will need to register for a UKVI account to access their eVisa.

More information is available on the Government website, while UKCISA has also provided concise guidance.

Our Graduate Outcomes 2024 rankings

The University of Essex acknowledges the exceptional dedication of students during their studies and the positive impact this has had on their onward journey as graduates.

Data from Graduate Outcomes 2024 confirms that:

·         86% of our graduates are in employment or further study

·         86% of our undergraduate graduates are in employment or further study

·         89% of our postgraduate graduates are in employment or further study

This accomplishment is a testament to their hard work and the robust educational foundation they received.

Our new LLM Law and Technology Course

The LLM in Law and Technology at Essex Law School gives students the opportunity to analyse the impact of modern technologies on the application of traditional legal principles and the ways in which challenges raised by modern technologies could and should be addressed by the law.

In our technology driven society, students can gain an understanding of how modern technologies impact the law and the society around us, and they will be able to select a range of modules that incorporate aspects of technology. This will also open up a wide range of career opportunities, such as in technology companies, or as a legal technologist, as well as within traditional law firms, corporations, or NGOs.
