In this session, Professor Jen Cornish, Academic Director – Graduate Research, will introduce our Master of Research (MRes) pathway, including the stackable Graduate Diploma of Research, and explain how it prepares students with advanced research and career-ready skills.

The session will also include faculty breakout rooms, where you can connect with academics and Graduate Research Academy staff to learn more about research areas and application pathways for students.

A NEW ERA IN RESEARCH AND DISCOVERY

Engineers and scientists working to answer humanity’s biggest questions have a new home on the Macquarie campus. The Engineering Innovation Building is a purpose-built ecosystem that encourages curiosity, nurtures bold ideas, and facilitates transformative learning. Here, our students have the opportunity to unlock their potential, harness their creativity, and emerge as leaders ready to make a meaningful impact on the world. For the first time in its history –after years of working in an adapted office space – the AAO is now based in the heart of the Macquarie University campus. The new Engineering Innovation building, with its striking glass exterior, can be found on Wally’s Walk

Macquarie’s Central Courtyard Accommodation has around 80 rooms available from July 2026 through to June 2027 – great news for students who are starting their students studies in July or August – aligning perfectly with academic start dates. Located in the heart of the university, this accommodation provides peace of mind for students and their parents. This accommodation books out quickly, so students are encouraged to apply early. Applications start on Monday 20th April.

Other accommodation options include EPIISOD Macquarie Park with 700+ rooms and offers students a partial accommodation scholarship. The Switch Macquarie Park will soon open its doors (for Session 2) with 400 rooms. Reach out to your country manager for more information.

David has been with Macquarie University for fourteen years and while he hasn’t been to every market we recruit from, he has covered a lot of ground! Prior to Macquarie David worked in management consultancy bringing extensive media and stakeholder management experience to his time at the university.

He loves his role leading the international operations of Macquarie as it is so diverse. One week it might be course development meetings with faculties, briefings with government stakeholders and internal strategic and financial planning. Another week might be hosting inbound delegations or an overseas trip to connect with our offshore staff and our key partners. His primary focus is to ensure the outstanding international team at Macquarie – and particularly team members ‘on-the-road’ engaging with students, parents and our valued agents – have the tools and support they need to excel.

As a former international student himself, the advice David likes to share with students is ‘always do your own research.’ Don’t rely solely on what the university or your counsellor tells you. Speak with the student associations at the university and connect with students directly who have made the same decision you are considering.

A keen golfer and volunteer lifesaver at his local surf club, David lives in Sydney's Eastern Suburbs with his wife and his (very active) seven-year-old daughter.

A WEALTH OF LEARNING

The Macquarie University Incubator is a part of Australia’s network of public universities and research institutions, including CSIRO and ANSTO, that help take our nation’s ideas and discoveries to the world. The incubator currently offers three short courses which are complimentary for current students:

1. Design Thinking: a free, one-week course designed to equip current students with practical, future-focused problem-solving skills.

2. Start Program: a two-week intensive course designed to help students validate business ideas and assess real market opportunities.

3. Pitch Program: a free program running twice per semester develops the skills needed to deliver persuasive, authentic, and audience-focused presentations.

Along with the flagship EDUCATE Program, Creative Thinking for Graduate Researchers course, and the Secondary Student Program, students can immerse themselves in a wealth of learning.
