Visa-Update: New Post-Study Work Options

Immigration New Zealand has announced upcoming changes to graduate work rights to better align international education with workforce needs.

From late 2026, a new Short Term Graduate Work Visa will be introduced, providing eligible graduates with up to 6 months of open work rights to seek employment and transition to longer-term work visas.

In addition, Post-Study Work Visa eligibility will be extended to Graduate Diploma (Level 7) graduates who also hold a bachelor’s degree. The visa duration will reflect the time spent studying in New Zealand, up to 12 months.

These changes aim to strengthen graduate employment pathways while supporting continued growth in international education. Please review the full announcement here.

NZ Diploma in Construction (Quantity Surveying) (Level 6)

NZ Diploma in Business (Level 5)

NZ Diploma in Hospitality Management (Level 5)

NZ Diploma in Early Childhood Education and Care (Level 5)

NZ Diploma in Beauty Therapy (Level 5)

NZ Diploma in Sport, Recreation and Exercise (Multi-sector) (Level 5) and (Level 6)

NZ Diploma in Tourism and Travel (Level 5)

NZ Diploma in Enrolled Nursing (Level 5)

New Programme Launch This July:
Diploma in Enrolled Nursing

The Enrolled Nursing programme provides an opportunity for those wishing to be employed, or already employed, in healthcare to gain registration with the Nursing Council of New Zealand (NCNZ) as an enrolled nurse and develop a clear career pathway.

Reviewed Entry Requirements for the Postgraduate Management Suite of Programmes

We have reviewed the Postgraduate Management suite of programmes, including the GPA requirement for the Master of Management (by Coursework), which is now a minimum of B- or 65%.

Master's Programme Webinar

In February, Toi Ohomai hosted a webinar showcasing three Master’s programmes: the Master of Management, Master of Applied Professional Studies, and Master of Applied Science (Biodiversity Management). These programmes continue to attract strong interest from the international student community.

Toi Ohomai Engagement in the Philippines

In February, Jayaraj Arul Samji, Market Manager – South East Asia and Rest of World, completed a successful recruitment and partner engagement visit across Manila, Pampanga, and Davao City.

During the trip, he connected with over 40 partner agencies and met with key stakeholders including Education New Zealand and TESDA to discuss 2026 programme alignment and upcoming intakes.

The Philippines continues to be a key market for Toi Ohomai, supported by a strong 94.1% visa approval rate for ITP applications in 2025. We look forward to building further momentum through targeted scholarships and fast-track study pathways.

Orientation Recap

In February, we welcomed new international students to both our Tauranga and Rotorua campuses. Orientation Week provided a valuable introduction to life and study in New Zealand, helping students feel informed, confident, and well-prepared for their academic journey.

During the week, students connected with our student support and academic teams, attended presentations from guest speakers representing key public services (including Police, local libraries, volunteer organisations, and Citizens Advice Bureau), and enjoyed a guided bus tour of the city. A highlight of the programme was the official welcome ceremony hosted by the Mayor and City Council.

We are delighted to see our new students settling in well and making the most of their experience at Toi Ohomai.

Thai Students Experience Coding at Toi Ohomai

A group of Thai students aged 12–15 recently participated in an engaging coding session at Toi Ohomai. During the workshop, students created their own imaginative digital worlds using Roblox and greatly appreciated the benefits of Toi Ohomai’s small class sizes and supportive learning environment.

The students are currently in New Zealand on a two-week study tour hosted by Pāpāmoa College.
