| Statement of Purpose (SOP) no longer required for student visas |
You may have noticed that the student visa application on the Department of Home Affairs (Home Affairs) website is indicating, in two places, that a Statement of Purpose (SOP) or Letter Statement of Genuine Student is still required. UniSA has confirmed with Home Affairs that this is NOT the case. Home Affairs are working to fix the system issue, however they have acknowledged it may take some time to rectify. Please DO NOT attach an SOP to visa applications. The student should focus their attention on completing the Genuine Student Requirement (GSR) questionnaire in their own words and within the specified character limit. In the meantime, Home Affairs has asked agents to refer to the Genuine Student requirement webpage. For any questions, email qualityandcompliance@unisa.edu.au |

| Allied health students set to benefit from world-class facilities |
Allied health and human performance students are set to benefit from a state-of-the-art sporting facility, the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI) build. The facility is one of Australia’s premiere sporting precincts, worth close to AUD $90 million. SASI features an environmental chamber for elite athletes, an ergometer training space for rowing, canoe and kayak programs, and biomechanics and exercise physiology laboratories. A centre for world-class sport, research and education, the SASI build will also include a UniSA Sports Science Hub in the coming months. The hub will provide both undergraduate and postgraduate students enriched learning in high-performance sport science laboratories. Since opening, the precinct has already received praise, with international organisations expressing their interest to use these amenities. |

| Pharmacy student wins prized Malaysian award |
Joelle Chong Ci Ann, a promising final year Bachelor of Pharmacy (Honours) student, has secured a prestigious Merdeka Award, presented by the Australia-Malaysia Business Council (SA Chapter), at their event celebrating Malaysia’s 67th Independence Day. As one of only four students to receive this prized award, the 22-year-old from Selangor in Malaysia’s west, says the award is testament to the hard work she has put in over the past year and a half. “It shows that all my efforts are not in vain and it’s producing good outcomes not only for myself, but for the friends and family who have supported me,” she says. “It was not easy for them (Joelle’s family) to send me here. This award shows I’m succeeding.” |

| Celebrating talented international students |
Congratulations to our UniSA alum and three students who had their achievements recognised at the 2024 StudyAdelaide International Student Awards. Mary-Ann Stephen Kingu from Tanzania, who graduated from a Bachelor of Engineering (Honours) (Electrical and Electronic), took out the prized Rising Star Alumni title. As a student, Mary-Ann received the Clipsal by Schneider Electric award for achieving the best overall performance in her degree specialisation. Inspired by Schneider's Women in Schneider Electric (WISE) community, she then joined the company’s graduate program and is now a qualified research and development engineer. The following UniSA students all received high commendations for their respective efforts into research including reactive soil movement, offsite construction practices and water scarcity solutions: |
