UniSA Business School top 10 in Australia
UniSA Business School has made the Australian Financial Review’s (AFR) top 10 best business schools nationwide for 2024.

The ranking, based on the school’s quality of teaching and research performance, reputation, career impact, employment and salary prospects as well as employer opinions, saw UniSA Business receive an overall ranking of 7.

UniSA Business scored within the top 3 for its quality of teaching and research performance.
Alternative practical assessment boosts confidence
As an alternative to traditional exams, an interactive oral assessment (IOA) has been introduced into the Bachelor of Laboratory Medicine (Honours) and Bachelor of Biomedical Science, to enhance student morale especially for those from non-English speaking backgrounds.

The IOA assesses student learning through a one-on-one format, allowing academics to gauge the depth of a student's knowledge through follow-up questions and discussions. The innovative approach, led by Dr Chris Della Vedova, Senior Lecturer of Biochemistry and Biomedical Sciences, and Dr Sarah Davey, Lecturer of Biosciences, aims to provide an authentic and personalised assessment experience.

Dr Davey says it’s an opportunity to support students, particularly those who aren’t native English speakers or deal with exam anxiety.

“We can tailor the assessment to what best supports them without changing the rubric or milestone they've achieved,” she says.

Egyptian alum returns to Adelaide for research collaboration
Neven Abdelaziz Mohamed Elsayed, a UniSA Egyptian alum who completed her PhD in Computer and Information Science in 2017, is once again back in Adelaide, collaborating on a research project in immersive analytics with UniSA’s Australian Research Centre for Interactive and Virtual Environments (IVE) and Behaviour Brain Body (BBB) teams.

For Neven, the seven years away have felt “like nothing”. “I kept collaborating with UniSA even when I was in Egypt, so it’s like I never left.”

It is UniSA’s supportive and friendly environment which the passionate academic remembers fondly and continues to see implemented today.

“It’s nice to work within a team that’s willing to share information so we can build something together.”

The project seeks to explore how long-term performance and operational efficiency among factory workers can be improved through augmented reality technology.

UniSA a finalist in esteemed employment awards
The UniSA Career Services team has been shortlisted as finalists in the prestigious Australian Association of Graduate Employers (AAGE) Graduate Recruitment Industry Awards (AGRIAs).

The team, which helps students create competitive resumes and improve their employability, was nominated in the Outstanding Careers Service category for the opportunities they provide to future nurses and midwives. This includes offering courses where students hear from major industry partners who discuss career options and recruitment processes, as well as panel discussions with successful UniSA graduates who share their experiences and challenges.

UniSA was one of four universities and the only South Australian institution nominated for the monumental accolade.
Honouring selfless service and leadership
Bachelor of Business student, Zhi Ching Lim from Malaysia, has had her selfless service to the University recognised at the prestigious Outstanding Participation, Achievement and Leadership (OPAL) event.

Zhi Ching won both the 2024 G’Day Mate of the Year and Brekky Bar of the Year awards. G’Day Mates comprise a mix of local and international students who help other UniSA students discover the vibrant life Adelaide has on offer. Brekky Bar provides students with a weekly free, nutritionally balanced breakfast.

Zhi Ching says volunteering her time to these groups has been incredible.

“The experience has enriched my university life, giving me a strong sense of belonging within the UniSA community.”

Zhi Ching received a special pin and a $100 voucher.
