Processing credit applications |
Our Admissions team has been reviewing the current process for handling deferral requests from individual credit applicants. Currently, the assessment process is lengthy and few students choose to enrol. To streamline the process with that of non-credit applicants, our Admissions team have proposed that before granting a deferral, conditional offer holders will be required to meet all other conditions of their application. This approach aims to align the process and reduce unnecessary delays.
Assessing credit applications remains a free service and guaranteed credit applications will continue to be processed regardless of the applicant's qualification offer status. The goal is to create a more efficient and consistent process for all applicants. Please feel free to reach out to the International and Engagement team if you have any further questions. |

New accommodation on Hamilton campus |
The University of Waikato is pleased to announce the development of a new self-catered accommodation facility on Knighton Road, Hamilton. This 75-bed facility is designed to meet the growing demand for student housing and will be available for international students starting in A Trimester 2026. The accommodation will consist of two- and three-storey townhouse-style apartment buildings, replacing the former Gate 2A car park. These buildings will house a total of 15 apartments, each containing five bedrooms. The design emphasizes community and connectivity, with spaces that integrate seamlessly into the wider student residential village. This new facility will provide international students with a modern and supportive living environment, enhancing their university experience. Further details and application information will be available closer to the opening date. For information on current accommodation options, please visit the accommodation page on our website. |

International accreditation for School of Computing and Computing Mathematical Sciences |
The University of Waikato has become the first university in New Zealand to have its Computer Science and Software Engineering programmes accredited under IT Professionals NZ’s new partnership with the Australian Computer Society to prestigious Seoul Accord graduate standards. The accreditation, awarded by the Australian Computer Society, is an international recognition of tertiary-level computing and IT-related qualifications. With it, the University’s Bachelor of Computer Science (BCompSC), Bachelor of Applied Computing (BAppComp), and Bachelor of Engineering with Honours in Software Engineering (BE Hons) are certified to meet Australian Computer Society, IT Professionals NZ and international Seoul Accord graduate standards. It means the BE Hons at Waikato is now a dual accredited programme, as it already has accreditation under the Washington Accord with Engineering New Zealand. These accreditations enhance the employability and international recognition of Waikato graduates, providing them with a competitive edge in the global job market. |
