This month, we are proud to highlight CQUniversity’s strong momentum across sport, innovation, and international engagement. The 2025 ShanghaiRanking of Sport Science Schools and Departments places the University in the global top 50 and recognises it as Australia’s #1 regional institution, reflecting our growing impact in research, partnerships, and performance.

Beyond rankings, our students continue to drive meaningful change with eleven Bachelor of Education and Bachelor of Exercise and Sport Sciences students travelling to Cambodia to teach English, build playgrounds, and support a range of sustainability initiatives. At the same time, Digital Media students are collaborating with Swedish peers and Indigenous communities to explore culture and storytelling through shared creative projects.

To better support future students, we have also launched the Build Your CQU Guide, a new tool that creates personalised course options aligned with individual goals and interests.

CQU SPORT rockets up global rankings

CQUniversity has been ranked 42nd globally in the 2025 ShanghaiRanking of Sport Science Schools and Departments, jumping from its 2024 position of 151–200. Director of Sport Strategy Professor Fabio Serpiello said the achievement reflects five years of building strong partnerships at the local, national, and international levels. It also reinforces CQUniversity’s broad expertise across sport, exercise, physical activity, and rehabilitation.

The ranking aligns with the University's SPORT Strategy 2025–2028, which aims to boost participation, performance, and research impact of our movement-related courses – especially as Australia moves toward the Brisbane 2032 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Recent initiatives include the world‑leading Parenthood Recommendations with AIS and QAS, advanced fielding analytics with Cricket Australia, and support for elite student-athletes. The latest ShanghaiRanking results also put CQUniversity also ranked #1 among Australia’s regional universities.

Students create change with pencils and playgrounds

CQUniversity students supported Cambodian schools through teaching, sustainability projects, and playground upgrades creating meaningful benefits for local children. The four‑week mobility program gave students valuable professional and cultural experiences.
