Dear valued partner, With the recent introduction of the Genuine Student requirement by the Australian Government, we are writing to provide clarity around how this development impacts our work together in recruiting international students to study at Victoria University (VU). As I’m sure you’re aware, the Genuine Student (GS) requirement has now replaced the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement for Australian student visa applications. As of 23 March, 2024, all student visa applications lodged with the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) need to address the new GS criteria, with further details available on the DHA website . This change is designed to enable a more accurate assessment of whether the applicant’s intention is to genuinely study in Australia. The student visa application form now includes the following questions around the applicant’s circumstances and future intentions, to be answered in less than 150 words each: |
1.Give details of the applicant’s current circumstances, including ties to family, community, employment and economic circumstances. |
2.Explain why the applicant wishes to study this course in Australia with this particular education provider and their understanding of the requirements of the intended course and studying and living in Australia. |
3.Explain how completing the course will be of benefit to the applicant. |
4.Give details of any relevant information the applicant would like to include. |
As an agent, your responsibility is to ensure the applicant provides informative statements and relevant supporting documents to demonstrate their ability to meet the GS requirement. Assessments are based on the applicant’s circumstances, immigration history, compliance with visa requirements and any other relevant matters. For further details about the GS assessment and what information and documents to include, please refer to the DHA website and Ministerial Direction 106. At VU, we are updating our communications and processes in line with the GS criteria, including our online application form and internal assessment procedures. We no longer require you to provide a Statement of Purpose to support a student application; instead, our GS assessment will reflect the four questions listed above. Our International Admissions team will work with you through EAAMS to provide further guidance around our expectations in light of the change, and all deferral cases will be reassessed against the new GS requirement. We appreciate your support in adapting to this new development. Please reach out to your Regional Recruitment Manager if you have any questions. Kind regards, VU Global team |
