Important Update: Changes to HDCW entry score calculations from mid-year 2026

The University of Melbourne is pleased to share an important update to how we calculate equivalent entry scores for master’s by coursework programs which will take effect immediately and apply to all applications for mid-year 2026 and beyond.

As part of our regular review processes, the University monitors a range of student performance metrics to ensure admitted students are well supported and successful in their studies. These metrics include academic performance (weighted average mark [WAM]), progression, and retention rates by previous institution. This evidence informs how the University sets and reviews entry requirements for applicants from different institutions.

Following a recent review, we have revised some of our entry requirements for students from select institutions. All master’s by coursework applications for mid-year 2026 and beyond will be assessed according to the updated entry standards. This may impact some of your recent applicants to the University of Melbourne, and these impacts are detailed below:

• Impact on unconditional offer holders and enrolled students

There is no impact on this group of students.

• Impact on applicants without an outcome and conditional offer holders

Master’s by coursework applications for mid-year 2026 and beyond without an outcome will be assessed according to the revised score equivalences.

Current conditional offer holders with an academic condition will have their applications reassessed. Where relevant, any changes to the minimum WAM required to meet these conditions will be communicated directly to the student. We encourage you and your students to upload final results as soon as they are available by following the instructions provided.

• Impact on previously unsuccessful applicants

Master’s by coursework applicants who have previously received an unsuccessful outcome will be reassessed under the revised score equivalences. Where an applicant is now eligible, a new outcome will be issued to both the student and agent. All eligible applicants will be reconsidered.
