Update to Entry Requirements of OD - GAMSAT No Longer Required for 2027

We have an important new update regarding entry requirements for the Doctor of Optometry (OD) at the University of Melbourne. 

Applicants for the 2027 intake will no longer be required to complete the GAMSAT, MCAT or OAT as part of their application. 

This change to entry requirements reduces barriers for students and better aligns with other optometry programs across Australia. Entry to the OD program will be based on academic performance (Weighted Average Mark/WAM) and existing criteria. 

What does this mean for 2027 applicants: 

• No entry test (GAMSAT, MCAT or OAT) is required. 
• Applications will be assessed using WAM only.
