Professor Hughes served as a UK expert advisor for the revision of UNESCO’s 1974 Recommendation on Education for International Understanding, Peace, and Human Rights. She has been recognised by a Queen’s Anniversary Prize awarded by the Royal Anniversary Trust, awarded an MBE for services to education in Northern Ireland and has been recognised by the President of Ireland as a leading female academic.
