The Graduate Diploma of Teaching (NSW) intake for Term 3 is now full and no further offers can be made.
IPT and Software Design & Development (SDD) teaching areas are now closed in NSW and WA (no further students can be accepted).
Only a very small number of places remain in other states (Victoria, South Australia and TAS/NT – online), and these are expected to fill quickly.
T5 remains open, however places are limited and filling fast - apply and accept offers now to avoid disappointment.
FYI - Current Postgrad Education Student Communications
Updated guidance has been issued to current SCU Education students on exit, transfer and continuation options for the Master of Teaching (Primary/Secondary) and Graduate Diploma of Teaching (Primary/Secondary).
Key Impacts Summarised
The Faculty strongly recommends completion of the Master of Teaching, which is NESA‑approved and AITSL‑aligned, includes 60 days of placement and the GTPA, and supports full teacher registration and stronger long‑term employment outcomes.
Students exiting from, or transferring to, the Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the MTeach must complete 45 placement days in total – the existing 30‑day MTeach placement plus a separate additional 15‑day GDoT placement block. This extra block is distinct, will be in a different school, and will extend course duration.
Students in the MTeach are required to remain in the MTeach to complete all first-year requirements, including the 30-day placement before seeking to exit.
GDoT placements are not available in the ACT and are restricted to non‑government schools in NSW, meaning some students may need to complete interstate placements.
Exit or transfer to the GDoT is NOT available to Student Visa holders.
LANTITE is mandatory for graduation from both the MTeach and GDoT.
All affected students must complete an Exit Options Questionnaire by 5.00pm, 22 May, including students who intend to remain in their current course.
A targeted 25% tuition fee scholarship is available for eligible NSW‑based GDoT Secondary students (Business Studies, IPT, Software Design & Development) and some ACT‑based MTeach students, to support transfer to or continuation in the Master of Teaching.
Cautions to Note:
Master of Teaching students must complete all first‑year units and the full 30‑day placement before considering an exit with the Graduate Diploma of Teaching. Course transfer should not occur while Year 1 MTeach requirements are still being completed. The additional 15‑day GDoT placement is only available once first‑year requirements are fully met.
Students seeking a GDoT award but wishing to remain in, and complete the MTeach should expect an extended overall completion timeframe, due to an unavoidable scheduling clash between the required GDoT placement and second‑year MTeach units.
Students have been directed to follow official SCU guidance and to contact Client Services or Placements for individual advice.
Please reach out if you require further details.
