Turning classroom theory into real-world financial skills

Swinburne has partnered with global leader in business and financial information, Bloomberg, to launch the state-of-the-art Bloomberg Trading Lab, transforming the way students learn finance by providing real-time access to global financial markets.

Sitting within Swinburne’s School of Business, Law and Entrepreneurship, the lab is equipped with nine Bloomberg terminals, a software system and computer interface that will allow students to track and analyse breaking news across the globe. This access to live financial data will help bridge the gap between classroom theory and real-world financial practice.

From Semester 2, 2025, the lab will be used for teaching, research, and industry collaboration, further positioning Swinburne as a hub for practical education and industry‑ready graduates.

Swinburne’s cyber security courses

Swinburne’s suite of cyber security courses is each designed to give students the knowledge and skills to protect and secure digital networks, as well as gain real-world skills to analyse and deal with online threats.

In the Bachelor of Cyber Security, students learn foundational skills, including encryption systems, access control and how network architecture and the internet is used to defend online data. For students who wish to further develop their computer science and cyber security knowledge, there are a number of postgraduate pathways into the Master of Cyber Security, which focuses on identifying, demonstrating, diagnosing and fixing flaws in software systems.

Through hands-on learning and opportunities to gain industry experience, students graduate prepared for high‑demand roles such as cyber security analyst, penetration tester, security consultant, or systems architect across a variety of sectors including finance, healthcare, and government.
