March at the University of Auckland |
The University of Auckland has welcomed its largest ever intake for Semester One 2026, and we sincerely thank you for your hard work and ongoing support in achieving this milestone. Over the past 12 months, we have also seen significant improvements in agent application turnaround times. Our initial goal was to respond within 10 days, and we are pleased to share that more than 80% of applications met this target last year. This progress reflects the valuable feedback we have received from our partners and the collaborative work undertaken with colleagues across the International Office. We are also encouraged by the early indicators for the 2027 intake. Please keep ensuring you support your applicants with full applications, including verified documents, and that they are applying for programmes they are genuinely interested in, and qualified to meet the entry requirements for. |
Importance of accepting conditional offers |
A reminder that we often provide Conditional Offers before we are able to provide Firm Offers. At UoA, accepting the Conditional Offer is important as it indicates that your applicant is genuinely interested in the programme and would like us to continue to engage with them and you to move through the condition stages. We have seen a large number of Conditional Offers that were made for Semester 1, 2026 that were not responded to. We are looking at these offers and the expiry dates going forward, so if this is an area you would like to understand more about, please let our International team know. |
Supporting prospective students at China Open Week |
The Admissions team will be joining the contingent for the China Open Week in April. They look forward to engaging with attendees and participating in training sessions to enhance support for prospective students and agents. |
The Agent Masterclass Engineering hosted by Dr Simon Underwood provided a comprehensive overview of our most in-demand Engineering programmes, including the Master of Civil Engineering, Master of Engineering in Project Management, and Master of Engineering Studies. Our expert panel—Dr Cody Mankelow, Dr Abhinaw Sai Erri Pradeep, and Dr Minh Kieu—discussed career outcomes, programme highlights, and unique selling points to help agents effectively position these offerings to prospective students. |
Don’t miss the scholarship application deadline
|
Scholarship applications are now open for new international students starting in Semester Two 2026, with the closing date on 1 April 2026. These scholarships can significantly reduce tuition fees, assist with living costs, and provide mentorship opportunities to support students’ academic and professional growth. A range of awards is available based on academic merit, talent, or potential, so please check the eligibility criteria carefully to ensure students apply for the scholarships best suited to them. |
Updates to post-study work visa options
|
Immigration New Zealand will introduce new and updated post-study work visa options to better align graduate pathways with the country’s skills and workforce needs. A new Short Term Graduate Work Visa will be available from late 2026, providing up to six months of open work rights for eligible graduates to seek employment and potentially transition to an Accredited Employer Work Visa. In addition, Post Study Work Visa eligibility will be extended to graduates who complete a Graduate Diploma at NZQCF Level 7, provided they also hold a bachelor’s degree. These updates are designed to attract and retain skilled international graduates while maintaining the quality and reputation of New Zealand’s education sector. |
