April at the University of Auckland |
Kia ora! We're proud to have achieved strong results in the 2026 QS Subject Rankings, with three subjects in the global top 30 and eight in the top 50. Notably As we head into Auckland’s cooler months, students are returning from their mid-semester break, and we look forward to finishing the semester strong on a high note. We’d also like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you for your continued support and partnership – it is trully appreciated! |
Record international intake – Semester One 2026 |
Semester One 2026 is shaping up to be the largest international intake to date at the University of Auckland. We are seeing strong growth across both undergraduate and postgraduate cohorts, reflecting continued global demand and the strength of our partnerships. International undergraduate offers have increased by 29.8% compared to 2025, while international postgraduate enrolments have risen by 3.5% year on year. These results highlight the collective efforts and dedication of our agent partners, whose ongoing support has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. We sincerely thank you for your continued commitment and collaboration. |
Student visa application updates and next steps |
Students who have not received a visa decision in time for their intended 2026 start date may still have options depending on their next available intake. This includes both those who applied late and those whose applications required extended processing time. For students able to commence study later in 2026, applications may be approved in principle, provided all outstanding requirements are submitted by the specified deadlines. Visas can then be granted once conditions are met. For those unable to begin until 2027, it is recommended that applications be withdrawn and refunded, as supporting documents may become outdated; a new application should be submitted closer to the 2027 intake (around September 2026). |
Early planning for student visa applications
|
Student visa applications for upcoming intakes should be submitted well in advance to avoid delays and ensure a smooth start to studies. As we approach Semester Two, messaging will gradually increase in urgency, but at this stage, the focus is on early preparation and timely submission. While visa processing times may vary, applying early allows sufficient time for any additional information requests and reduces the risk of missing key deadlines. We encourage agents to support students in preparing complete applications and submitting them as soon as possible. |
On-campus accomodation for Semester Two
|
University Accommodation is now accepting applications from students starting in Semester Two, July 2026. We have a range of accommodation options available for new and returning students. Living on campus can help students settle more quickly, stay close to classes and campus services and feel part of the university community from the start. Utilities, internet and access to the University Recreation Centre are included in weekly fees. Applications are open now and early offers are expected from mid-May. |
MTESOL 180-point programme introducing new entry pathway
|
The 180‑point Master of Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (MTESOL) is a new hybrid postgraduate programme designed for recent graduates who aspire to careers in English language teaching but do not yet meet the professional TESOL experience requirement for direct entry to the 120‑point MTESOL. Students complete the first 60 points online from their home country over one semester, developing foundational TESOL knowledge in curriculum design and pedagogy, before progressing to the final 120 points on campus in New Zealand. The programme provides a structured pathway into the University of Auckland’s globally recognised MTESOL degree, broadening access to early‑career and pre‑experience candidates. The first intake is Semester Two 2026 (courses start 20 July), with applications closing 6 July 2026. |
Register for the Master of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) webinar
|
A webinar for the new Master of Teaching and Learning (Early Childhood) will be held on Thursday 30 April, 7–8pm NZT, providing an overview of this on-campus programme launching in Semester Two. This session is a valuable opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the programme and its study pathway. With strong early interest from international applicants, agents are encouraged to promote this webinar to both offshore and onshore students. As this is an on-campus programme, early applications are recommended to support timely visa processing and enrolment planning. |
Skilled Migrant Category changes update
|
Further changes to the Skilled Migrant Category (SMC) will come into effect from late August 2026, as announced by Immigration New Zealand. These updates introduce new residence pathways, refined occupation lists (including trades and technician roles), and simplified median wage settings across SMC pathways. Additional changes include clarified qualification requirements for points claims, extended English language test validity for some applicants, and the introduction of recognised occupational registration for accountants. |
Important update for applications to Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)
|
Due to high demand for the BE(Hons), we are no longer able to accept further applications for Semester Two 2026. Please encourage students to apply for future intakes. |
Update: Semester One 2026 commission process timeline
