A new year and an enhanced University of Otago logo! Many of you may recall that Otago launched its new visual identity and logo during 2024. We are pleased to now provide you with a more convenient and enhanced version of the logo on a dark blue background - this is available as a file you can download here. We hope partners find this version with the block dark blue background much easier to work with and apply in your various marketing collateral/digital work when promoting Otago. |

WAITANGI DAY 06 FEBRUARY 2026 Waitangi Day, New Zealand's National Day, commemorates the anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi on 6 February 1840. In observance of this important day, the University of Otago will be closed on Friday, 6 February 2026, which may result in delayed responses from our staff. |

MANAAKI NEW ZEALAND SCHOLARSHIPS OPEN FROM 01 MARCH TO 31 MARCH 2026 The New Zealand Government offers full scholarships to eligible citizens from selected countries to study at New Zealand universities, including the University of Otago. These scholarships cover full-time undergraduate and postgraduate study at New Zealand universities. They include expenses such as tuition fees, return airfares, insurance, basic living costs, and set-up costs in New Zealand.
Eligible countries include: Asia: Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Thailand, Timor-Leste, and Viet Nam Pacific: Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, New Caledonia, Niue, North Pacific (Federated States of Micronesia, Palau, Marshall Islands), Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, Vanuatu
The next tertiary Manaaki New Zealand Scholarships application round for all eligible countries and regions will open from 1 March to 31 March 2026, for students commencing their studies in New Zealand in 2027. HANDS-ON OTAGO 2026
From 11 to 16 January, Otago’s Dunedin campus hosted 403 students from 203 high schools across Aotearoa New Zealand. They stayed at our residential college Te Rangihīroa, took part in research projects, sampled a host of university subjects and enjoyed a varied social and recreational programme. We were delighted to award fully funded scholarships to 12 international students to join the programme. If you have students currently enrolling in Year 11 or Year 12 at a New Zealand high school in 2026, learn more about Hands-On at Otago at www.otago.ac.nz/hands-on-at-otago and encourage them to apply for our scholarships to join Hands-on Otago 2027. |

APPLICATIONS FOR SEMESTER 2/ JULY 2025 INTAKE Applications are open and the deadline to apply for studies commencing in Semester 2/ July 2026 intake is 30 April 2026. Please review the programmes that are available in this intake on our website, link here, and submit an application as soon as possible. Scholarships are available for international students starting Semester 2/ July 2026 intake. Please review the details on our website, link here. The scholarship offer letter is a separate document from the Conditional or Unconditional offer letter. Please ensure the scholarship offer is accepted within the two-week timeframe outlined in the scholarship offer letter.
Once the Global Scholarships offer or the Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships for International Students offer has been accepted, the student will be invited to apply for the University of Otago International Academic Excellence Scholarships
There is a two-week window to complete the application and submit it to the University of Otago International Academic Excellence Scholarships
If the student is awarded the International Academic Excellence Scholarship, ensure the student accepts the scholarship within the two-week time frame given in the scholarship letter
BOTH Global Scholarships/ or Vice-Chancellor's Scholarships for International Students AND International Academic Excellence Scholarship can be held i.e. they are stackable – potentially up to $50,000 NZD
