KEY DATESWe are less than one month before the start of Semester 1/ February 2026 intake. Please note the following important preparation for your students. PRE-DEPARTURE WEBINAR FOR STUDENTS STARTING IN SEMESTER 1 / FEBRUARY 2026If you and your students did not join our pre-departure webinars, we encourage you to watch the recordings below, as we covered useful information regarding enrolment, travel tips, and more! □ Watch: Pre-departure Webinar for Full Degree International Student Offer Holders Youtube Youku □ Watch: Pre-departure Webinar for Study Abroad and Exchange Students YouTube COMPULSORY ORIENTATION & ENROLMENT SEMINARS FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDENTSAll new incoming international students must register for and attend the International Student Enrolment and Orientation Seminar before completing enrolment. If you students have not done so, please ask them to sign up a seminar: □️ Register here! A gentle reminder that your students must email international.orientation@otago.ac.nz with their full name and student ID:A high-quality PDF scan of their passport bio page and facing page, ANDThe PDF file of their student visa once they have received it from Immigration New ZealandNote for international students transitioning from New Zealand high schools: They can still attend an Orientation & Enrolment Seminar even if their student visa for study at Otago has not yet been approved. They must provide evidence that they have applied for a new student visa.STUDENT VISAImmigration New Zealand is currently processing complete applications within good timeframes. Keep checking your visa status (including spam folders) and stay in touch with our Student Visa Service team so we can support you. If your students have booked travel and do not have a student visa by the date of departure, you are reminded not to attempt to enter New Zealand on a visitor visa or by visa waiver entry. You may be refused border entry and may compromise the processing of your student visa application. You cannot travel with a visa waiver if your intention is to study in New Zealand. For support, please contact Otago's Student Visa Service at student.visa@otago.ac.nz (include student ID number).TUITION FEE BALANCE IN EVISIONIf your students have been awarded an Otago international scholarship and have already paid the estimated fees outlined in your Offer of Place, but still notice an outstanding balance on their eVision account, please do not worry. This is because the scholarship amount will only be applied to your eVision record once you arrive on campus and commence your studies at the University of Otago. At this point, students are only required to pay the amount specified in your Offer of Place. Any remaining balances will be updated accordingly following your arrival on campus and course declaration.TRAVEL INSURANCE A reminder that Studentsafe Inbound University is our recommended insurance policy for international students. Whether your students pay for this policy before or after they arrive on campus, their cover will begin 31 days before classes start, so they are covered for their journey to New Zealand if they travel within this timeframe. If something goes wrong on their journeys, please keep all receipts and related documents to support any insurance claim.FAQ: Do I need an insurance certificate? We don’t issue confirmation of insurance before the students arrive. This is because the cover is a Group Scheme, and the record of cover is issued once the University has submitted the group records to Studentsafe. The Otago Student ID is the policy number.Students don’t need evidence of cover for your visa or for arrival at the New Zealand border. For more information, please visit: https://www.otago.ac.nz/international/healthcare ON-CAMPUS ACCOMMODATIONRESIDENTIAL COLLEGE STUDENTS The countdown is on as students from across New Zealand and overseas arrive for Residential College move-in weekend (14–15 February) □.
