Otago Rises in QS World University Rankings 2026 The University of Otago has been ranked equal 197th in the QS World University Rankings 2026, marking its return to the top 200 universities globally. Otago also retains its position as the second-highest ranked university in New Zealand. This 17-place rise from last year is largely due to improved scores in Academic Reputation and Citations per Faculty. The result follows earlier success in 2024 when Otago’s sports-related subjects were ranked 11th in the world in the QS World University Rankings by Subject - the highest subject ranking for any New Zealand university. The QS World University Rankings is the most comprehensive ranking of its kind, with over 1,500 institutions participating globally, showcasing the world’s leading universities. |

Final Reminders Ahead of S2/July 2025 Intake We trust that you and your students are all set for S2/July 2025 intake. Here are a few final reminders before we kick off the new semester on 7 July 2025: - Please ensure your students have signed up for a COMPULSORY orientation seminar. For more information visit this link.
Key dates for start of studies - Week of Monday 7th July: Students should aim to arrive at Otago in time for the Orientation and Enrolment week.
- Monday 14th July: First day of formal lectures!
- Sunday 20th July: Last day to add papers. This date is also the last day to arrive and start studies, or make changes to your paper selection, within the standard University deadlines.
Students should plan to arrive on campus and attend an enrolment seminar during Orientation Week, as this will ensure they have completed enrolment before your classes start. If your students are unable to attend any of the enrolment sessions or need more information on the last enrolment dates for specific programmes, please contact your Regional Market Manager. Waiting on a visa for your student? If you applied for a visa for your students more than six weeks ago, please: - Check your spam/junk folder in case you've missed an alert or request for more information
- If there are no outstanding actions and it's been over six weeks, contact our Student Visa Services team at student.visa@otago.ac.nz
Do not attempt to enter New Zealand on a visitor visa or visa waiver if a student visa hasn’t been approved. This can result in denied entry at the border and may compromise your students’ visa application. Students cannot travel on a visa waiver if their intention is to study. |

New Functionality in eVision to Request Tuition Fee Receipts for Student Visa Purpose A new feature is now live in eVision, allowing students to request their tuition fee receipt for student visa purposes directly from their eVision portal. This applies to Diploma programmes (Arts, Commerce, Science) and all other full degree programmes (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PGCert, PGDip and PhDs) submitted through eVision. How can a student request their receipt via eVision? From within eVision, students can request their tuition fee receipt via either the ‘My Finances’ container (under the Home tab) or the ‘Finance’ menu (on the top navigation bar): i) The ‘My finances’ container (under Home): |
|
ii) The ‘Finance’ menu (on the top navigation bar): |
|
Steps to request a tuition fee receipt as an international student: - Log in to eVision.
- Click Request tuition fee receipt from either the My Finances container or the Finance menu.
- Select the academic year they are requesting the receipt for from the drop-down menu.
- Click Request receipt.
- Click Exit.
Tuition fee receipts are issued as an alert for students to download via eVision. From the Finance menu, students can track the status of their request, add notes or documents (which will automatically update the request with Student Finance), and view any completed requests. Summary: - Tuition fee receipts are not generated automatically (except for English language and Foundation Studies Certificate programmes).
- For Diploma programmes (Arts, Commerce, Science) and all other full degree programmes (Bachelor’s, Master’s, PGCert, PGDip and PhDs) submitted through eVision, receipts will be requested and sent via eVision. Students will receive an alert notification and can download the receipt directly from the alert. If students need to send the receipt to their agent, they will need to do so themselves once the receipt is available in eVision.
- For English Language and Foundation Studies Certificate students, tuition fee receipts will be automatically sent to the email address recorded in EBS, without the need for students to request them once payment has been made.
- Receipts can only be issued once payment has been received in the University of Otago’s bank account. Please note it can take several days for international funds to clear.
- We recommend that new students make their payments as early as possible to allow sufficient time to receive an official receipt for their student visa application.
