Update in eVision function for the Global Scholarships & Vice Chancellor's Scholarships for International Students

Good news! We have now removed the scholarship question in eVision "Do you wish to be considered for international scholarships at the University of Otago?”  You no longer need to click Yes or No.

The updated eVision has a new message showing:

By submitting your application, you agree to be considered for any scholarships available to international students based upon the information supplied in your application for study. You may also be invited to apply for other scholarships which require separate applications. See Scholarships for International students for further information.
If you prefer not to be considered for these scholarships, please email us at international-connect@otago.ac.nz to let us know.
A reminder again, that agents receive commission on the original tuition fee amount, not the reduced fee after scholarship. That's good news for you and your students!

International Academic Excellence Scholarship Ceremony

The University of Otago recently celebrated the first recipients of its International Academic Excellence Scholarship 2025, valued at approximately NZD$35,000. Recognising outstanding academic achievement, leadership, and community engagement, this scholarship supports top international Bachelor's degree students who have demonstrated outstanding academic ability in their overseas high school.

The scholarship covers first-year accommodation and contributes partly to tuition in years two and three. Recipients of this scholarship had also previously received a Vice-Chancellor’s Scholarship for International Students or a Global Scholarship towards their tuition fees in year one as well, with a combined total value of at least NZD$45,000.

Recipients of the new scholarship come from countries including India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, China and the United States.

Watch the scholarship ceremony video here.

International students are now welcome to apply for 2026 admissions and scholarships, for both February and July intakes. Apply here.

Reminder: Scholarship Applications for New Zealand-Based Students close on 15 August 2025

The University of Otago Undergraduate Entrance Scholarships are applicable to NZ-based international students who are currently attending high school or a Foundation Studies Certificate programme in New Zealand.  Application is via eVision.
Please note that:
  • Strict deadlines apply for these scholarships: applications are due by 15 August 2025.
  • Students must apply to be considered. If they do apply, they will most likely be eligible for a scholarship (with values ranging from NZD $10,000 to approximately NZD $35,000).
  • No scholarship will be awarded if the student does not apply by the deadline.
  • Commission is paid based on the original tuition fee amount, not the reduced amount after the scholarship is applied.

Reminder: Hands-On at Otago 2026: International Scholarships Available

If your students will be in Year 12 or Year 13  at a New Zealand high school in 2026, this is a unique opportunity to experience a week of student life at the University of Otago. Students will stay on campus in one of our residential colleges and choose one of 25 subjects to explore across Business, Health Sciences, Humanities (Arts), and Sciences.

They'll learn from our world-class academic staff, meet students from schools across the country, and take part in a wide range of fun and engaging activities on campus. Hands-On at Otago 2026 will run from Sunday 11 January to Friday 16 January 2026.

Applications close on Thursday 7 August 2025. International scholarships are available to cover the programme costs and flights (where applicable).

For more information, visit www.otago.ac.nz/hands-on-at-otago or email us.

On-Campus Accommodation 2026 - Applications Open on 1st August 2025

The University of Otago’s Residential Colleges will begin accepting applications for accommodation starting S1/Feb 2026 from 1 August 2025. International offshore applicants have until 1 December to apply for a residential college. However students already holding an admissions offer are strongly encouraged to apply before 30 September to be considered in the first round of room offers (which are made in early October).

Applications for UniFlats open from 1 August 2025. We strongly recommend applying before 1 November, so we have time to match students with similar interests.

The colleges are ideal for first-year Otago undergraduate students (Bachelor’s degrees or Diplomas in Arts, Commerce, or Science), as well as Foundation Studies Certificate students.

Postgraduate students at Otago are encouraged to choose UniFlats, Otago-owned homes on campus with private bedrooms and shared living spaces. UniFlats offer excellent value for money with key costs such as electricity and wifi included, as well as flat maintenance, social events and activities.

Applications for Residential Colleges and UniFlats are made via eVision.
