We strongly recommend that you send this checklist to your students and encourage them to read it.View pre-arrival checklist for international students hereProcessing credit applicationsOur Admissions team has been reviewing the current process for handling deferral requests from individual credit applicants. Currently, the assessment process is lengthy and few students choose to enrol. To streamline the process with that of non-credit applicants, our Admissions team have proposed that before granting a deferral, conditional offer holders will be required to meet all other conditions of their application. This approach aims to align the process and reduce unnecessary delays.Assessing credit applications remains a free service and guaranteed credit applications will continue to be processed regardless of the applicant's qualification offer status. The goal is to create a more efficient and consistent process for all applicants. Please feel free to reach out to the International and Engagement team if you have any further questions.Reminder - Open Day - TaurangaWe will be holding open day on our Tauranga campuses on 25 June 2025. 新-怀卡托大学-新西兰移民局 (INZ)签证申请建议

View this email in your browserKia ora, greetings from Aotearoa New ZealandWelcome to this special edition eUpdate for our valued partners across the globe.Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has advised that it is important that anyone wanting to come to New Zealand to study in the second half of the 2025 academic year does not leave it too late to submit their visa application.INZ always advises that students should apply for visas at least 3 months in advance of travel, however some students waiting on key study documentation will not be able to apply 3 months ahead. These students should apply as soon as they have all the documents, and they need to be aware late applications may not be processed in time for them to start studying.  If an international student is planning to study in New Zealand and their academic results are pending, INZ have advised that students can still initiate visa applications using a conditional Offer of Place. This approach allows INZ to begin assessing their application, potentially granting an Approval in Principle (AIP) if other requirements are met. However, please note that an unconditional Offer of Place is mandatory before a visa can be issued. We’d appreciate you sharing this with your team and any prospective students. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to get in touch.Read here for more info on student visas and how to applyStay connected and be the first to know about news from The University of Waikato! 新-怀卡托大学-药学实践硕士课程简介

View this email in your browserKia ora, greetings from Aotearoa New ZealandWelcome to this special edition eUpdate for our valued partners across the globe. We are excited to announce the introduction of our new Master of Pharmacy Practice for international students, launching in March 2026. This two-year programme is designed for international students with a background in the molecular sciences, offering advanced clinical training and a pathway to pharmacy registration in New Zealand. We are the first university in New Zealand to offer this programme. The FAQ includes details on:Programme intake and lengthEnglish Language RequirementsAcademic Entry RequirementsCampus locationWhy is the programme open to international students?Application stepsWhat to expect during the interview?Placement locationsPractical sessionsTimeline to finish placementPathways from non science degreesPersonal statementTimetableEmployment OpportunitiesSupport on registrationClosing date for applicationWe’d appreciate you sharing this with your team and any prospective students. If you have any questions or need further information, feel free to get in touch.Programme intake and length2-year duration commencing March 2026 (A-Trimester). Only 1 intake per year. First year programme fee:NZD$45,050 (2026)NZD$47,305 (2027)English Language RequirementsAcademic IELTS overall score of 7.0 (with no bands below 7.0)Academic Entry RequirementsA bachelor’s degree with a major in one of the molecular sciences (Biochemistry, biomedical science, chemistry, molecular and cellular biology, pharmacology) achieving a B-grade average in your final year of study.Campus LocationHamilton (no option for Tauranga)Why is the programme open to international students? There are a large number of internationally trained pharmacists who want to seek registration in New Zealand, and do not meet the standards.  This 2-year Masters gives them the skills needed, as well as an additional master’s level qualification. This programme layers on clinical practice. The practice of pharmacy in New Zealand is advanced compared to other countries, where pharmacy is limited to dispensing.  International students will get advanced clinical training that is not available in their countries.Application StepsApplicants must meet and pass the selection process set by the Division of Health to be made an unconditional, full offer. This includes (in no specific order):Personal StatementInterview (more info below)International Police clearanceProof of meeting English language requirements2 written references from either an employer or academicWhat to expect during the interview? The interview is scheduled for up to an hour, but most run 30-45 minutes. There are 2 or 3 "interviewers" - an academic, a practicing pharmacist and where possible a Māori academic. The structure of the interview is relatively free flowing, and asks the student about their prior studies (as students can have different entry degrees), where they have strengths and where they have areas that may need support, they are asked about why they have chosen Pharmacy, there are questions about Te Tiriti and cultural competence (it is fine if they have limited knowledge of this, particularly for international students, but it is an important part of clinical training in NZ). There is the opportunity to ask the division questions. There is no clinical assessment component (i.e. we do not assess clinical reasoning etc, which some other health professional courses do). What are some examples/types of placement location? The first placement is a 1-week community placement, based in Hamilton, the second is a 2-week hospital placement at Waikato or Tauranga hospital. There is then a 3-week community (preferably rural placement), and experiential visits to marae, general practitioners’ clinics, industry etc. All of the placements are facilitated by us. There is some degree for us to factor in preferred geographical locations.Practical session – Second trimester, is it up to the student to find a placement, what if they can’t find one? How far to travel? Hours to attend? The University will have places for students to choose from. They can also request certain sites/areas, and the university may be able to accommodate that via contacts. The rural placements can be anywhere, however where there are commitments (i.e. children), the university can attempt to have places closer. The travel is variable. They will do a full 3 weeks on placement (40 hours per week).Any timeline to finish the 375 hours of practice? The placement hours are part of the course and so these are quite structured.  The number of hours aligns with the course. What if prospects completed a non-science degree? Are pathways available? The university will consider a Graduate Diploma if there is a strong science component (i.e. chemistry, pharmacology, immunology etc).  Grades are also important in assessing entrance. What information is required for the personal statement and how long should it be?Usually only a page, no fixed format, but most students will talk about why they want to do pharmacy, what they have been doing up until now, and any other factors that may help us decide on offering a place (some talk about clinical experience, desire to help people, views on equity/health, some may disclose backgrounds or challenges they have overcome). What will timetable look like? The division has a "static" timetable which means it is the same every week, with the exception of the last teaching week, which is "assessment week", we have no exams in the exam period as we use that time for placements.  The general pattern is lectures in the mornings and labs in the afternoons.Employment OpportunitiesThere is a worldwide shortage of pharmacists, and as such  graduates should not struggle finding employment in New Zealand and Australia, and they will be able to work in most comparable countries. Waikato is the only NZ Masters level, which is really the international standard. Otago and Auckland only offer Bachelor’s, which does not meet many countries entry qual. Will students get support from Waikato with the registration steps before graduation? The University is not part of "registration" with the exception that we are accredited by the Pharmacy Council, which means that once our students graduate, they have a recognised qualification to enter the Intern Training Programme (ITP).  Everything from that point is under the control of the Pharmacy Council and ITP provider.Closing date for applicationsAdmission applications for March 2026 will close Tuesday 30th September 2025 in order to ensure selection process can be completed and considering visa processing times.Stay connected and be the first to know about news from The University of Waikato!  Dear All, 怀卡托大学3月信息。 1.怀卡托提醒学生,offer上的费用只是指示性的,未来会因为课程改革等因素发生变化。 2.推荐Bachelor of Climate Change 课程。 3.在QS 大学可持续排名中,怀大排在第112位。 4.提醒学生尽快办理签证(现阶段,新西兰学生签证审理周期为2~4周)。   邮件另附上大学最新国际生册子的下载链接,供大家查询。To:  "新西兰入学专用邮箱"<aanz@aa-intl.com>;Subject:  What's NEW @ Waikato Kia ora, greetings from Aotearoa New ZealandWelcome to our March 2025 eUpdate for our valued partners across the globe. In this issueHow our fees workDegree Highlight - Bachelor of Climate ChangeUoW improves sustainability rankingsReminder to submit student visas earlyNew Zealand Government Undergraduate Scholarship for Vietnamese studentsDigital Prospectus and Ascent OneHolidays and important datesHow our fees workWe'd like to remind our education partners that the fees provided on our offer letters are an estimate only and are calculated based on a selection of papers typically taken in the qualification chosen. If students chose to study a paper outside their chosen discipline, this impacts on their tuition fees. For students who commence in (July) B or (November) C trimester of each year, the papers that they take in the following year will be charged at the paper fee for that year, not the year they enrolled in. This is the same for many of the other NZ universities. We appreciate the difficulties that this creates for students and are working hard to find a solution in our offer letters that will provide students with greater clarity on what their tuition fee will be when they study across two years.Going forward, you will start to see some changes to our offer letters including different letters for PG students studying in 120-point vs 180-point masters. We will be implementing these changes from C trimester 2025 onwards. We would greatly appreciate your assistance in making this clear to students who are planning to enrol in B2025 and welcome any suggestions you might have to help us with these changes. Please send your comments through to your Waikato contact person.Bachelor of Climate ChangeClimate change is the most critical environmental issue facing humanity and the planet. It is important for us to have graduates who can lead future climate change solutions in all sectors of society. The degree will allow students to develop a comprehensive understanding of climate change including its scientific, social, cultural and economic dimensions and become an expert in one of a wide range of subjects needed to develop climate change strategies and solutions. The degree culminates with a multidisciplinary group project, where students will work with an external organisation to develop an effective low-carbon strategy. Students will graduate with skills and experiences that are in-demand, as we work towards a target of net zero emissions in Aotearoa by 2050.Learn more about Bachelor of Climate Change hereUniversity of Waikato improves sustainability rankingThe University of Waikato is one of the world's top performers in the 2025 QS Sustainability Rankings, a recognition of its efforts to tackle some of the world's most pressing issues.Waikato's ranking of 112= out of 1,744 participating institutions sees it move into New Zealand's top four. Its score is 85.4 out of 100, an improvement on last year's 81.9. The rankings highlight which universities are leading the way in social, economic, and environmental sustainability, drawing on the framework provided by the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).QS bases its ranking on performance in three areas: Environmental Impact, Social Impact, and Governance.
